Amelia Renee Byrd (Memphis, TN) has been dancing since the age of three beginning her studies at Peggy Holden Armstrong’s School of Dance. As an adolescent, Amelia attended Colonial Middle and Overton High Schools for the Creative and Performing Arts. Upon graduating high school, Amelia continued her studies in dance at The University of Memphis; obtaining a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in Theatre and Dance and a Bachelor of Professional Studies along with a professional teaching licensure in Dance Education. Amelia was the Dance Instructor at Colonial Middle School for the Creative and Performing Arts and a member of Project: Motion Dance Collective, Memphis’ only Modern Dance Company. Amelia has presented work with Project: Motion, the University of Memphis’ Theatre and Dance Department, the University of North Carolina at Greensboro’s School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and Playhouse on the Square’s Summer Youth Theatre Conservatory. Amelia recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, receiving a Masters of Fine Arts Degree in Dance/Choreography and is now currently working as adjunct lecturer in ballet and modern dance at UNCG and NC A&T; and also as a drama instructor and choreographer for the Drama Center at City Arts in Greensboro, NC. This is Amelia’s fourth season dancing with JOYEMOVEMENT.
